I have lived in Alameda for 15 years, and I’ve seen firsthand how this community values and supports its schools.

My family has been part of AUSD since 2010. My two children started in our schools as kindergarteners and are now teenagers. 

I joined the school board last year because I believe that expertise in education policy only matters if it finds its way into the places where decisions are actually made. For me, that place is right here, in the community where I live and my children have grown up, and where thousands of other children and young people are being prepared for a quickly changing world. I am running because this work takes time, and I am just getting started.

I’ve been proud to support our district as a school site council member at Maya Lin, a volunteer on two parcel tax campaigns, and as a member and chair of the district’s Parcel Tax Oversight Committee. 

I bring a unique blend of personal engagement and commitment to our schools, along with 25 years of professional expertise in public education. My career has focused on ensuring all students — particularly those historically underserved — have access to excellent learning opportunities. I currently provide policy advice and research support to education leaders in California and across the country.

I have successfully championed fair and full funding for schools, strong academic standards, college and career opportunities for all, arts education, and equitable supports for our highest-need learners. 

I have put my expertise to work for Alameda students. I have pushed for greater academic rigor and higher expectations across all schools and championed stronger systems of support for students who are struggling. I helped secure a 10% pay increase for our teachers and staff, along with more affordable health benefits – while working to balance those commitments with a plan for long-term fiscal sustainability.
